Mission - The Hayden Library exists to provide information and ideas to all users.  It affords the opportunities for students to appreciate literature and the cultural arts, to learn creative thinking skills, to become critical seekers of information and ideas and to use instructional and educational technology effectively so they may become independent life-long learners and decision makers. 

Availability - The Hayden Library is available to students during the school day and before and until 4 p.m. after school.  Library computers are also available during evening study hall on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  

When students come to the library they must have an agenda signed by their classroom teacher.  Students who come to the library are asked to check-in at the circulation desk.  When leaving the library the student's agenda needs to be signed at the circulation desk. 

The library door to the parking lot is only to be used after the school building is closed.  On Tuesday and Thursday evenings students must enter and leave through the parking lot door.  The doors to the main building will be locked and the main building is not available for students to retrieve books and supplies.  All materials should be brought with them.

Services - The main service of the library is circulation of books and materials.  Both students and teachers are encouraged to use resources available in the library.  A list of available library services is as follows:

  • Computers available for student and classroom use
  • Reference searches for both teachers and students
  • Teaching library reference and library skills
  • Magazine database through the Internet

The library offers the following for the convenience of students and teachers:

  • Poster board at 40 cents a sheet
  • Laminating at 25 cents a sheet

Circulation of library materials includes:  Library materials such as books, reference works and magazines circulate according to the following:

All books are checked out for a period of 2 weeks. There is no fine for overdue books, but if a book is not returned during the semester it is checked out, the student will be charged a lost book fee of $20.00.   There is also no fine for overdue reference books which are checked out for a period of 2 days, and they carry a charge of $35.00 for lost books.  Magazines are checked out for a week.  There is a $6.00 fee for lost magazines.  Any other materials such as video or audiocassettes are checked out with teacher permission.
